For this primary school I designed a new logo. To capture a true childish craft style I co-created the logo with some students. After that, I designed the character Captain Brakkie and 3 richly illustrated islands for an interactive treasure map.
For this project I used the following percentage of my skills (at that time).
concepting
illustration
graphic design
ui/ux design
animation
De Brakken is a primary school in Rijen, the Netherlands. Brakken is an old dialect word for little children. The former logo of De Brakken was a well designed green typographic wordmark. But it felt a bit to formal and didn’t communicate youthfulness. So it was time for an update. I wanted to stay true to the old logo by keeping it a wordmark and by using the same green color. But because of the word Brakken, I wanted to capture the essence of childish craft to visualize youth. To achieve this I could have connected with my inner child and crafted the logo myself. But this would be fake. So instead I gave some children a craft package. They had to cut out the letters of the logomark and fill a square with a marker. The results were great with beautiful imperfections. I vectorized the letters and the drawings and composed the logo. The result is a playful and youthful logo, partly made by the children of the school.
To present information about the school in an interesting way, Jeroen Denissen and I created an interactive treasure map. For this website I designed the interface and illustrated 3 islands with 10 points of interest each. Some elements are animated with spritesheets and others using CSS. The introduction is done by Captain Brakkie, a character I designed for the website. After the launch of the website it became the spokes figure of the school.
I hope you like my creative work. If you do, maybe we can create something even better together? Please say hello!
